Mathematica is pleased to announce the arrival of Julie Schilz to lead our efforts in private sector health offerings and business development. Schilz brings considerable executive experience in the private sector and clinical expertise to inform our expanding portfolio of health work. In particular, Schilz has a broad knowledge base of care management, quality improvement, value-based reimbursement programs, and medical home initiatives, including those led by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation.

“We are delighted to welcome Julie Schilz to our organization,” said Christopher Trenholm, senior vice president and general manager of Mathematica’s Health Unit. “She brings an impressive and deep understanding of what health systems and other providers need to improve care delivery and outcomes, including assistance in making care delivery changes, developing measures, conducting rapid-cycle tests of change, and optimizing use of health information technology. These skills will help us achieve our mission of improving care, delivery, and, ultimately, public well-being.”

Schilz joins a team that informs health policy debates and addresses decision makers’ information needs through reliable data and analysis. Driven by broad-based public interest in finding ways to improve the quality, efficiency, affordability, equity, and financing of health care, Mathematica has contributed to the base of research and data in care delivery and financing, quality measures, and health systems change. Mathematica’s experts also study longstanding issues, such as covering the uninsured, measuring and improving health care quality, controlling health care costs, and designing efficient and effective delivery systems to meet diverse needs.

Schilz’s experience and accomplished career span senior positions in leadership, operations, and strategic development that demanded innovation and collaboration with a range of health care organizations and industry stakeholders. A former senior executive at Anthem, Schilz led efforts to develop and implement its care delivery transformation program. Before that, she served in a leadership role for a primary care management services organization, managed Colorado’s Multi-Payer Patient Centered Medical Home initiative, and implemented the Beacon Primary Care Transformation program funded by Colorado’s Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

In addition to her career accomplishments, Schilz holds a number of other professional affiliations and is active with several leading health organizations. She has engaged with the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation’s Comprehensive Primary Care initiative, serves as executive committee liaison to the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative, and is on the editorial board for Medical Home News. She is also a clinical programs committee member for the National Committee for Quality Assurance. In addition, Schilz serves on the Primary Care Payment Model Workgroup for the Health Care Payment Learning Action Network, where she drove development of the Payer Action Collaborative. Schilz has a bachelor’s degree in nursing, receiving her formal clinical training as a registered nurse at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, and she holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in health from Regis University.
