Angus primarily focuses on early childhood education research. She is currently the deputy director of the Head Start Innovation Fund Evaluation based in Detroit. This evaluation is designed to document changes in teacher quality, teacher retention, and family engagement in Head Start programs. She is also the evaluation co-lead on two other Foundation-funded projects based in Detroit. Both projects focus on enhancing high quality child care and fostering supports for families in Detroit. In her technical assistance work and her more traditional research-based projects, Angus works to help practitioners use research to inform decision making.
Angus leverages her degree in education policy to focus on school reform. She contributed to the federal evaluation of the Race to the Top and School Improvement Grant initiatives as well as a study of school turnaround practices for the U.S. Department of Education. Her work also spans program evaluation of employment training programs and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
Angus joined Mathematica in 2006. She holds an M.A. in educational policy studies from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Home Grown contracted with Mathematica to identify the strengths and limitations of FFN care and the needs of FFN providers. The study also aimed to inform considerations for future measures to assess FFN quality.
