On Friday, November 3, Mathematica’s Matt Stagner was selected for the role of president-elect of the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management (APPAM). The announcement took place during APPAM’s fall research conference in Chicago, Illinois.
APPAM’s mission is to improve public policy and management by fostering excellence in research, analysis, and education. The membership organization includes educators, researchers, public policy analysts, and others. APPAM organizes an annual multidisciplinary research conference and publishes a peer-reviewed journal that brings together the highest quality research on public policy and management.
“Better, more accessible, and more actionable research is crucial to capitalizing on the current momentum around evidence-based policy,” said Matt Stagner. “APPAM serves a unique role, bringing together experts from across multiple academic fields, and across government, research organizations, and the academy, to build better evidence. I’m excited to be a part of APPAM’s efforts to help navigate the road ahead to improve public policy based on what works,” he continued.
Stagner was recently named Vice President and Director of Human Services State and Local Business Development at Mathematica Policy Research. He joined Mathematica in 2013, and has led the organization’s Chicago office and human services unit while growing Mathematica’s work around child welfare issues. Prior to joining Mathematica, Stagner was the executive director of Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, director of the Center on Labor, Human Services, and Population at the Urban Institute, and director of the Division of Children and Youth Policy under the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
