Erin Fries TaylorErin Fries Taylor
Associate Director; Health Research

Erin Fries Taylor is an associate director of health research at Mathematica. Her research interests focus on the quality of and access to health care for vulnerable populations. Her work has included studies examining quality improvement activities in Medicaid managed care; racial and ethnic disparities in health care; Medicare managed care and supplemental insurance markets; and access programs for low-income, uninsured persons.

Recently, Taylor has directed work for the Department of Health and Human Services’ Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation to better understand recent trends in Medicare managed care and to consider possible policy refinements to the program, including pay for performance. She also led an evaluation for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality of the National Health Plan Collaborative, whose focus is reducing racial and ethnic disparities among member health plans.

In prior work, Taylor examined national programs for the uninsured in a study for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is currently evaluating the Healthy San Francisco program for the city of San Francisco. In addition, Taylor has conducted studies for various private foundations, the Center for Health Care Strategies, and other organizations.


Taylor has published her work in a variety of journals, including Health Affairs, Health Services Research, and the Journal of Health Economics. She has a Ph.D. in health services organization and policy from the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health and a Master’s in public policy from Michigan’s Ford School of Public Policy.
